Target, William Rast Offer Last-Minute Ideas

Target recently launched a limited-edition fashion collection through an exclusive partnership with William Rast, a denim and fashion brand co-founded by music mogul Justin Timberlake and his childhood friend, Trace Ayala. The William Rast for Target collection rolled out on Dec. 19, 2010, just in time for last-minute holiday shopping. It will be available in most stores and online through Jan. 22. The "biker bohemian" line is the first of Target's numerous designer collaborations to offer apparel for both men and women, and encompasses jeans, shirts, jackets, leggings and skirts ranging in price from $16.99 to $199.99.Marketing efforts for the collection focus on TV spots. (See video below.) Target is also promoting the line on its home page, which links to a microsite that offers 360-degree views of models wearing select items. In stores, the apparel is merchandised on dedicated racks with supporting headers and ceiling signs. Among other products that Target introduced shortly before the holidays were:Apple Inc.'s iPhone and iPad. The iPhone was introduced to the roughly 850 stores with Target Mobile centers on Nov. 7, and will reach additional locations by mid-2011 in conjunction with the Target Mobile rollout. The iPad is merchandised through an in-line display, with accessories getting a dedicated endcap in some stores. For the launch, the device earned a cover feature, followed by full-page interior features in three subsequent circulars.Facebook Credits gift cards. Target became the first bricks-and-mortar retailer to begin selling the cards in September (followed soon after by Walmart and Best Buy). The virtual currency is redeemable for purchases within social games such as Zynga Game Network's FarmVille.Exclusive versions of new albums from country musicians Keith Urban and Taylor Swift. (Urban's Get Closer was released by Capitol Records on Nov. 16; Swift's Speak Now by Big Machine Records on Oct. 25.) Radio spots, online ads and circular features promoted the launches; Swift's launch also received TV spots. In stores, the products enjoyed dedicated displays (with Swift aided by a ceiling sign) throughout the holidays.An exclusive holiday collection from longstanding partner Sonia Kashuk (see "Target Stays Charity Focused") that included nail polish, makeup, brush sets and a cosmetics bag ranging in price from $9.99 to $24.99.A limited-edition jewelry collection from designer Temple St. Clair. The exclusive line was available from Aug. 29 through Dec. 28 and included necklaces, cuffs, earrings and rings that ranged in price from $29.99 to $49.99. Exclusive makeup kits from returning partner JK Jemma Kidd (see "Target's Value Message ...") priced at $22 to $35.
