Target Taps Second CIO Since Hack

Target appointed former Tesco executive Mike McNamara to the role of executive vice president and chief information officer.He will replace the retiring Bob DeRodes, who was hired last spring to restructure the company’s technology operation following the massive data breach of holiday 2013. (See "Target Puts ..." in Related Articles.)McNamara worked at Tesco for more than 15 years, playing key roles in modernizing the British retailer’s supply chain, establishing it as one of the world’s largest online grocers and introducing “scan-as-you-shop” capabilities, Target indicated in a media release.He is tasked with advancing Target’s digital transformation and helping the company become an omnichannel leader. He will report to chief executive officer Brian Cornell.“Technology is critical for Target’s future success,” Cornell said in a media release. “So finding the right leader for this role was one of my absolute top priorities.”In his short time as cio, DeRodes strengthened Target’s IT infrastructure and hired the company’s first chief information security officer, Brad Maiorino. The data-security veteran had replaced Beth Jacob, who resigned following the breach, and will continue to serve for a short period in an advisory role.Maiorino along with senior vp of technology services Jim Fisher and president of Target India Navneet Kapoor will lead the IT team until McNamara relocates from England later this year.Among other recent executive changes:svp of groceries Tim Mantel resigned.vp of finance and credit services Spencer Johnson announced his retirement.vp of apparel Jocelyn Anderson left after her position was combined with another.
