H-E-B Dives into Delivery

H-E-B inked a partnership with Birmingham, AL-based startup Shipt to offer grocery delivery in as little as one hour in the San Antonio market.The mobile application-based delivery service on May 25 expanded to San Antonio, offering its services exclusively at H-E-B stores in the market per an agreement with the grocer. The subscription service will roll out to Dallas, Austin, TX, and Houston later this year. A yearly membership runs $99, while a monthly option costs $14 and delivery fees are waived for all orders over $35. Customers who signed up for Shipt prior to May 25 earned a $50 shopping credit.Shoppers in San Antonio also have Instacart as a grocery delivery option. H-E-B and Instacart first formed a relationship when the San Francisco-based company entered H-E-B’s Houston and Austin markets in 2014. Both Shipt and Instacart also cater to Central Market, H-E-B's upscale grocery concept. Shipt and Instacart use a network of local shoppers to obtain and deliver groceries at a time specified by users — each boasting that deliveries can be completed in as little as one hour after ordering."H‑E‑B strives to provide customers not only with quality products at affordable prices, but also with innovative and convenient services," Greg Souquette, senior vice president and general manager of San Antonio operations at H‑E‑B, said in a media release. "Partnerships with companies like Shipt and Instacart allow us to offer a shopping experience to fit the needs of our customers looking for time‑saving solutions."Online, H-E-B used Facebook and Twitter updates to spotlight the addition of Shipt and Instacart to the San Antonio market. Shipt promoted its expansion into San Antonio via Facebook and Twitter updates, and posted a supporting video to its Youtube channel (see below) leading up to May 25. Banner ads on shipt.com support.The moves expand the Texas grocers’ e-commerce fulfillment options.
