Southeastern Grocers Gets Cooking for Independence Day

Southeastern Grocers is promoting cookout needs ahead of the Fourth of July holiday with a variety of tactics.A "Stars, Stripes, Savings" message appears in stores on in-line displays stocking SKUs from brands including Procter & Gamble's Bounty, Kellogg Co.'s Pringles, J.M. Smucker Co.'s Crisco, Topco Holdings' CharKing, Hornell Brewing's Arizona and private label SE Grocers Essentials. The same theme appears on rolling carts in action alley offering loyalty cardholders BOGO deals on Georgia-Pacific's Dixie, Barilla, and Kraft Heinz Co.'s Kraft and Miracle Whip.Chain circulars running on June 28 used a fireworks theme and generic Fourth of July messages to plug a mix of entertaining and grilling needs including meat, produce and prepared foods and SKUs from brands including PepsiCo's Tostitos, Mondelez International's Oreo, Unilever's Popsicle and Kraft Heinz's French's. The circular's front page promotes the retailer's annual pledge to donate all of its profits on July 4 to Hope for the Warriors. Stores are also soliciting additional donations from June 28 to July 4. A June 28 Facebook and Twitter update supported. The July issue of Flavor magazine contained an article about the cause.Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie both also released a four-page "Get Grillin'" in-store circular on June 28 spotlighting some of the same brands along with others such as Mt. Olive Pickle Co.'s flagship, Pinnacle Foods' Birds Eye, Tyson Foods' Tyson Any'tizers and Kraft Heinz's Claussen. Cookout recipes dominated the July issue of Flavor, which uses a "Flag Wavin' Savings" theme on a two-page spread delivering coupons for products from Curly's Foods, Smithfield Foods, Kellogg Co., Talking Rain, Nathan's Famous and Green Mountain Coffee Co.
