Office Depot Hires Chief Marketer

Office Depot named Jerri DeVard executive vice president and chief marketing officer, filling a role that had been vacant for about 18 months.DeVard is tasked with "leading the strategy for furthering Office Depot’s brand positioning and overseeing the integration of all marketing and communications initiatives," according to a media release. She is also responsible for driving the growth and implementation of strategic marketing activities that build brand equity and increase market share.DeVard joins the office supply chain with more than 30 years of marketing and leadership experience. She previously served as senior vp and cmo for The ADT Corp., where she was responsible for all strategic, operational and financial aspects of the security company's integrated marketing programs. Prior to that, she held various marketing leadership positions at companies including Nokia, Verizon and Citigroup. She currently serves on the board of directors for Under Armour and Cars.com."[DeVard] has tremendous insight and experience leading global marketing efforts for world-class consumer brands, with a proven record of delivering business results while acting as a change agent,” Gerry Smith, Office Depot chief executive officer Gerry Smith said in the media release. “We are excited to welcome [DeVard] to Office Depot as her leadership and fresh perspective will be instrumental in driving a more integrated omnichannel marketing approach that builds brand loyalty and positions the company for growth. I look forward to partnering with [DeVard] in building the new Office Depot."DeVard succeeds Tim Rea, who served in the role for four years before leaving the company in February 2016, according to Rea's LinkedIn account. DeVard's appointment comes shortly after Office Depot hired former Verizon executive Janet Schijns to the newly created position of senior vice president, services - copy, print and tech.
