Kroger Promotes Two New Division Presidents

Kroger last week promoted Smith's vice president of operations Zane Day to take up the role of president for Kroger's Nashville division, and elevated Central division vp of merchandising Katie Wolfram to president of the division.Day replaces Rick Going, who is retiring effective Feb. 27 after 35 years with Kroger. He had helmed the Nashville division since it was created along with the Louisville division in 2013 when the retailer split its Mid-South Division in two. He previously spent six years leading Kroger's Michigan division, assuming the role when the division was created by splitting up the Great Lakes division. He also served as vp of operations and vp of merchandising for the Cincinnati/Dayton division, where he began his career as a management trainee."Throughout his notable career, [Going] led by empowering his team while always expecting excellence," said Kroger chief executive officer Rodney McMullen. "[Going]'s leadership in starting two new store operating divisions has built the model for our company. The entire Kroger family wishes [Going] and his family all the best in retirement."Day has worked for Kroger's Smith's division since 2003, holding the title of district manager and vice president of merchandising before being promoted to his current position last year. Day also held leadership positions at Kroger's Fry's and Fred Meyer chains. He first joined the company in 1974 as a night crew member of a Utah Smith's store.Wolfram succeeds Jeff Burt, who took over leadership of Kroger's Fred Meyer chain following the Jan. 31 retirement of its president Lynn Gust. Wolfram served as vice president of merchandising for Kroger's King Soopers chain for nine years before being named to her current role in 2014. She also has held several leadership roles within Kroger's manufacturing division. Wolfram joined the company in 1979 as an assistant store manager in the Cincinnati/Dayton division.Day and Wolfram's replacements have not been announced.
